Pet rabbits should be fed carrots and lettuce as a treat only to stop them becoming obese, the RSPCA and the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals have advised.

It may be harmful to feed pet rabbit fruit and vegetables which are not eaten in the wild and which contain high levels of sugar.

A spokesperson for Rabbit Awareness Week which starts on June 1, 2019 suggests that owners should provide mint, thyme, rosemary, basil, grass and hay to rabbits.
