A fawn snuggles up to a sport hunter’s target practice deer thinking that it is her mother as her real mother has been shot by the same deer hunters!! A picture which tells a story of human misbehavior on a gargantuan scale.
Nothing makes me sadder and makes my tears flow faster than this picture!

This is a very poignant picture. Some defenders of sport hunting claim it was set up by placing the fawn against the deer shooting target to make a point about the madness of sport hunting. And it is mad and very cruel. But let’s for a minute say that the picture is genuine. It does scramble the brain because we have a fawn thinking that the used, smashed deer target is their mother. And it is possible, as mentioned, that the fawn’s real mother was shot dead by the very hunters who used the target practice device. It is circuitous in a mad human way.
The likely explanation is that someone physically placed this fawn next to the bow target as a prop for a good photograph to raise a shitstorm. A fawn would not naturally cuddle with a lump of plastic with the scent of a human.

My response: It doesn’t make much difference as the message is the same.
And the word ‘mad’ is very apt although deer hunters just don’t see it like that. For them to shoot deer for fun is totally normal and of course entirely acceptable. But where is the recognition of sentience? The acceptance that they cause pain and suffering for their enjoyment? At a fundamental level, in terms of morality and good and bad, it can’t be acceptable.
In the United States, sport hunters shoot dead 6.3 million white tailed deer per year. And 1.5-2.1 million are involved in road traffic accidents per year. I guess most if not all die either by the collision or by being shot afterwards. The US is not a great country from the deer’s perspective.
