Celebrity men, masculinity and companion pigs!

The headline comes from the Veg News website and it’s a good one. Although it was not used as a headline on that website. The article on that site kicks off with Arnold Schwarzenegger who, for me, is a great guy. He is remarkably intelligent. Perhaps I shouldn’t say it that way but because all the focus has been on his body, we tend to ignore his brain and it’s a good one. A very insightful and practical man.

Back in the day when he was bodybuilding, he was a meateater. I guess he would be because he wanted to eat protein to build muscle and also back in the day people were far less interested in vegetarianism and veganism, the planet’s health, nature and animal welfare.

But Mr Schwarzenegger is very concerned about animal welfare. And is concerned about his health no doubt because he has cut his meat consumption by about 80% since those bodybuilding days. Red meat is unhealthy, in case you hadn’t noticed.

We know that he is an animal lover and therefore by default he has to be concerned with animal welfare because he lives with many animals and they share his home. I guess it is an extensive home but I’ve seen a photograph of him sharing food with a pig inside his home.

In all, he shares his home with one donkey, whose name is Lulu, a miniature horse whose name is Whiskey, three dogs whose names are Cherry, Dutch and Schnitzel, and a pig called Schnell. That’s it. Enough, I guess. Perhaps not because he says that his family is growing meaning his animal family is growing.

I’ve just read that we know that his animals are allowed free-roam around his home inside and out by the sound of it because January, Danny DeVito, in a conversation with The Sunday Times (I missed that article because I by this newspaper) said that “the animals just roam around all over the place.”

I bet he has an army of cleaners and house maids to keep his home clean and tidy though. 😉

He is not alone among many celebrities who love animals and who live with some exotic pets such as James Cromwell who, you might recall, was the star in the film Babe a 1995 movie about an orphaned pig.

Another big man who is described as manly and masculine in the news and social media has adopted it seems to me a pig companion. And like Schwarzenegger he also has a donkey and two dogs and a snake.

Another actor I respect and admire is George Clooney who is also an animal advocate. He shared his home with a pig called Max. He said that pigs can be hard work but they are really smart. He also said that “Max was funny, and he made me laugh.”

Intelligent well-known actors are adopting the kind of animals you wouldn’t consider to be pets because they love animals and this is something that I love because they set a really good example for others. These guys promote animal welfare indirectly and directly through their actions. Commendable. But not everyone has the means and facilities to do what these guys do.

The following article achieves describes how some celebs achieve the opposite.
