Greta Thunberg, 16, has Asperger’s. She is moving mountains. She is making politicians in the UK sit up and listen about climate change. She is in the UK at the moment. Greta is the talented and brave teenager who triggered the school strike for climate movement after a sit-in protest outside the Swedish Parliament. She met political leaders in the UK on Tuesday.
She believes in non-violent disruptive actions as they have impact. She believes that they can be necessary to force change.
Greta said this about her Asperger’s:
“It makes me different, and being different is a gift, I would say. It also makes makes me see things from outside the box. I don’t fall easily for lies, I can see through things. If I would’ve been like everyone else, I wouldn’t have started the school strike, for instance.”

On climate change her message to the UK’s party leaders is:
“Listen to the science, listen to the scientists. Invite them to talk. I am just speaking on behalf of them. I’m trying to say what they’ve been saying for decades.”

Comment: last night on the radio there was a political reactionary, climate change denier. There are lot like him. His name is Bloom. He is an ex-Ukip man. It is easy for businesses to deny the existence of climate change because they don’t want the expense of making their businesses carbon neutral.
It is nice to see a young person with a mental health condition using it for positive effect. She is making it a benefit, a useful tool. This turns things on their head as she is turning the attitudes of politicians on their heads.
Asperger’s allows the person to have intense and highly focused interests. It has taken a teenage girl from Sweden with perfect English to drive our political leaders in the correct direction.
