Infographic on ‘Why do we call professional riders jockeys?’

Remarkably the evolution of the word ‘jockey’ to identify a professional horse rider took just 4 major steps according to my source excluding the ancient source. And they are pretty clean, identifiable steps. Of course, it is the English language. English speakers shouldn’t forget that we are in an enviable position in that English is our first language. We must respect other languages. But the power of the English language means that even the French have adopted it lock stock and barrel preceded with the addition of a French pronoun as follows: ‘le jockey’. This will annoy the French as they seek to protect their language from being polluted by English. 😢😎
