Were dogs desperate for haircuts too after the long coronavirus lockdown or was it their owners?

We know how eager people are to have their hair cut after this last long coronavirus lockdown in the UK so is no surprise to see dogs being rushed to dog parlours to be professionally groomed. The result is a transformation. Sometimes you can’t recognise the dog.

It does prompt a question about whether dogs have coates that are too long because of selective breeding. It’s a fundamental question and I suspect that if dogs were able to randomly breed through natural selection whether they would end up with fur that was as long as it is when selectively bred.

And wemight also ask whether this dog needed to have a haircut because some people might find the longer fur more attractive. Haircuts are normally done for health reasons and to allow the dog to be cooler during hot weather which is coming up (hopefully).
