Brown tree snake

Brown tree snake

The brown tree snake is non-native to Guam where they have decimated the bird population. Scientists discovered that they can climb a slippery sheer 3 foot metal pole by forming a lassoo around the pole and tucking themselves underneath the lassoo. With this configuration and with a rippling of their body they can inch their way up the pole. The scientists who carried out the study were shocked at the snake’s extraordinary ability. It helped to explain why the birds of Guam have been extirpated by this resourceful invasive species.
