Virunga NP, Congo

Virunga NP, Congo.

Virunga NP. This is a magnificent 2000 acre nature reserve full of wildlife including 1000 gorillas in the Congo and it is beeing exploited by commercial enterprises. At the sharp end there are rebels with guns who seek to claim territory in their fight against the rangers whose job it is to protect wildlife. These are the conservationists at the sharp end. It’s a battle between conservationists and exploiters. Africa is full of mineral wealth out of mining in Africa. And there’s lots to be made out of mining in Africa. It’s either mining or deforestation to raise cattle which harms conservation and at the sharp end we have these gunfights. It’s quite shocking that it has come down to this.
