It is said that trainers and jockeys between them have a large number of excuses as to why an individual horse did not win a race that day in order to convince the horse’s owner to retain the trainer and keep paying his high fees and the stabling costs.

It is also said that a horse has to win a large number of races in order to recoup these high costs.
