Octopuses can be quite social and confrontational. They change colour to indicate body language. They can be cannibalistic and they can kill each other. They are smart and it is believed they are smart because they are predators. It takes intelligence to hunt and kill prey animals. But it is tricky for humans to analyse the intelligence of invertebrates.

At one time it was thought there were quite solitary but scientists know better nowadays. In this photograph it appeared to the diver female Caleb that her octopus friend wanted a cuddle or a hug.

In the photograph she gets a facial wrap but after letting go of the diver the cephalopod went for a hard with this female body.
