Man gives paralyzed dachshunds a life by taking them to a doggy park for a walk with wheels

A man rescues dachshunds who’ve lost the use of their hind legs and takes them to the park for a doggy wheel walk. This is a special bloke who appears to have committed himself to rescuing and adopting dachshunds who’ve lost the use of their hind legs because of intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) to which this cute dog breed is most definitely predisposed. It is a spinal condition which impacts up to 24% of dachshunds.

And the reason why they are so predisposed to it is the obvious: they have been elongated and turned into ‘sausage dogs’ through many years of selective breeding to manipulate their anatomy to make them cute but it puts unnatural stress on their spinal column.

A spinal disc might burst under the pressure which compresses the spinal cord causing severe back pain together with loss of mobility.

A dachshund diagnosed with IVDD abruptly loses hind leg function. The paralysis may be temporary or permanent.

A spinal disc may burst because a dog has been involved in high impact activities such as running or jumping. Before and after that happens, the dog may show signs of distress and pain. The dog may be under the age of seven.

This, then, is another example of the immorality of selective breeding of both dogs and cats to the point where their health is jeopardised. It is unethical for breeders to do this and it is unethical for the dog and cat associations to allow it to happen.

This dachshund problem is highlighted to an extraordinary degree in the photograph on this page which accompanied a tweet on Twitter.

The person who tweeted the image did not mention that they were all dachshunds but when you look at the picture you can see that they are. It caught my eye. It immediately drove me to search for information about this and very quickly I came across IVDD which was totally unsurprising to me because I know about the problems of dachshunds and the selective breeding which makes them unnatural. See link below.

Modern dachshund is too low to the ground

The breeders also develop these dogs to have legs which are unnaturally short. This is a form of dwarfism called chondrodysplasia. So, they are elongated and shortened. It’s a double whammy and sometimes their chests can make contact with the ground. All in the name of cuteness to boost sales to the general public.

I love dachshunds like anybody else but health must be prioritised over appearance on every occasion with respect to both cats and dogs.
