It is hard to know why this video was made. Somebody is behind the camera. Who is that person? I always feel inclined to ask these questions because we sometimes forget the motivation behind making these sorts of videos. But all we know is that this boy wanted to shake the hand of the dog and the dog wanted to do the same thing. And to make it even better the boy appears to kiss the dog’s paw in a show of affection. It seems to me that it is love passing between the boy and the dog although they appear to be strangers to each other. But, we don’t know the back story. It would help clarify what happened and I don’t think we can take these videos on face value all the time. This one looks genuine but a lot of social media videos are heavily contrived and set up; designed to tug on the heartstrings of viewers in order to make some advertising money.

I have, perhaps, been a bit too cynical but I would like to think that I’m just being realistic and questioning. My guess is that the person behind the camera is the boy’s parent. They were walking down the street. They saw the dog. They thought that they would make a video. Either that or the dog and the boy are part of the same family. The dog has been trained to shake hands. The video is meant to give the impression that the boy and dog are strangers to each other.
However you look at it it’s a nice video telling a nice story and which has the message: respect animals, respect companion animals and respect dogs. It is particularly nice to see a boy love dogs. It bodes well for the future. There will be one more human being on the planet who can do some good for animal welfare.
